Two months after I started working as a case handler at Contact Law I was approached by a client over the phone. The client was a sub-postmaster at her village Post Office. She had been audited that morning and found that her Post Office had a loss to the value of £7,000. The client had found this loss when doing her daily accounts a week earlier and asked the Post Office auditors to assist her and investigate the matter to locate the loss and rectify the accounts. US rapper Eminem is suing the car manufacturer Audi for using phrases from his song ‘Lose Yourself’ in their advertising campaign, without the singer’s prior permission. Audi are claiming they only used the phrase ‘Lose Yourself’ once at a launch party in Berlin. (More…)
Employers can no longer force their employees to retire once they are 65 years of age. Employees will now be able to choose the route they wish to take.
If an employer now forcibly retires their employee at 65, they may be liable for age discrimination and unfair dismissal. (More…)
The ‘double jeopardy’ rule did not allow for a defendant to be tried for the same crime again and again. Therefore, the accused did not have to endure the strain and stress of a trial after a verdict had already been reached. The East Side Gallery is a 1.3km-long brightly painted stretch of the Berlin wall which divided East and West Berlin for almost 30 years, and has now become an emotive fixture in Europe’s modern art heritage. The outdoor exhibition space is now embroiled in a copyright controversy after Berlin council destroyed artworks painted on the wall and reproduced others without the permission of the original artists.
